What Does an Inground Pool Cost in Ontario?

If you’re thinking of installing an inground swimming pool on your property, one of the first questions that usually comes to mind is, “How much will it cost?” It’s a valid question because there’s no doubt that an inground swimming pool is a large investment. But if you compare it with the forthcoming years of fun in the sun combined with the value it adds to your property, it can be well worth it. In this article, we’ll try and answer the question of “What does an inground pool cost in Ontario?”

Vinyl Pools

Vinyl inground swimming pools are typically the cheapest option available when it comes to upfront costs. But of course, the final price is dependent on many variables. Size, shape, unusual landscaping and custom upgrades will all affect the final price. And although vinyl pools may be the cheapest to install, their yearly maintenance fees are somewhat higher than fibreglass pools. You’ll also need to replace the liner every five to 10 years and that could cost you an extra several thousand dollars not including labour costs. That said, you’ll have a wide range of shapes and sizes to choose from even if you’re not looking for a custom-made pool. Vinyl pools are naturally resistant to algae and their smooth surface makes them relatively easy to clean.

Concrete Pools

Concrete swimming pools may occupy the middle ground when it comes to upfront costs, but they will also have the highest annual maintenance costs. They also take much longer to install compared with vinyl or fibreglass pools, but they’ll last much longer. The surfaces of concrete swimming pools are relatively rough which allows algae to grow much more easily than in other pool types. Because of this they usually require an acid wash every four or five years to keep them free of molds and algae. You’ll also likely use more chemicals on a regular basis to keep the water chemistry balanced. Concrete pools also have to be resurfaced every 10 to 15 years which can cost over ten thousand or more. That said, concrete pools are always custom-built which gives you many more options when it comes to size and shape.

As far as what to expect as cost goes for a concrete pool in Ontario, inground custom lap pool projects start around $85k plus fence enclosure, site restoration and landscaping. There are many factors that will affect the final pricing of a concrete pool quote including access, location, site conditions, options, materials, travel, etc. We would be happy to provide you with a custom pool quote based on your specifications and requirements.

Fibreglass Pools

Fibreglass inground pools typically cost the most to install, although their maintenance costs are the lowest of all three types of pools.  Once again, prices can be variable depending on size, shape and upgrades. On the other hand, fibreglass pools can be installed in less than a week. They are also the easiest types of pools to keep clean and your chemical costs will be lower than other types of inground pools. The main variable in price comes down to how much of the work you do yourself versus hiring someone else to do it for you.
