Many of us try to put a lot of work into staying healthy, but sometimes we may be at a lost on how to help our body best. For example, when it comes to exercise we may be at a loss on where to start. This can be especially true for individuals who are just starting out or those who are restricted in their abilities to complete traditional exercise routines. Fortunately, there is an option that is a quick fix for those individuals, pool exercises!
Pool exercises can be just as effective as traditional exercise while accommodating those who may need a bit more support while exercising. It is also fun! Exercising in your pool can feel more like a game than boring exercising, allowing you to look forward to your daily activity. So how can you specifically benefit from pool exercises?
Less Joint Pain
By exercising in the pool you are going to feel less joint and muscle pain, especially while doing impact moves that could hurt your joints and muscles outside of the water. Individuals with conditions like arthritis or chronic pain can especially benefit because of the water’s buoyancy. These gentle exercises allow you to build muscles and work out those aching points while feeling little to no pain.
Improve Mobility
Since the water will help aid your joints and muscles with buoyancy, feel free to increase your mobility. Work on stretching and increasing your range of motion, in an environment that can make this slightly easier.
Improve Balance
Balance can be an especially difficult area to work on for some. This can be even more true with those who struggle with joint or muscle pains. As mentioned above, because of the water’s buoyancy, it will reduce the impact you feel on your joints, allowing for you to do the exercises you love. The same is true for improving your balance. For example, try running from one side of the pool to the other, while stopping every three steps to hold your position of standing on one foot.
Full Body Training
Don’t be fooled. Just because these exercises are reduced impact and done in the pool does not mean you cannot work out every muscle in your body. There are weights you can use designed for the water to perform some of your favourite moves. Plus, the added resistance of the water will help make those moves you love just a bit more challenging.
Help Your Heart
While you can build strength in the water, you will find there are also a ton of cardio workouts that do not involve running or swimming. These moves will help improve the health of your heart by increasing your heart rate. This can be done with light pool weights you push and pull through the water as fast as you can or walking from one side of the pool to the other as quickly as your body allows. There are tons of ways to get a good cardio training in without ever needing to leave the pool.
Beat The Heat
This one is a favourite among many. When you workout in the pool the clear water is going to help keep you cool through every exercise. This can be an especially great benefit for those who grow warm easily or simply do not like how sweaty they can get during a workout. The cooling of the water will keep you feeling refreshed until your very last exercise!
Not only is a workout out in the pool fun, but it can be an optimal way for many to get their workout in without harming other parts of their body. The benefits are endless!
